Tales from the Intern, Part 1

Last week I started as a design intern here at BRANDFX, next week—The World. With my first signed NDA and a lesson in toasted sesame seeds, I am ready for the rest of my summer here.

Smart Phones, Stupid Humans: What I learned at the BCAMA Digital Agency Panel

[ Image via wallpaperuser.com ]

Last night the BCAMA hosted its Evening Speaker Series event at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Seven speakers had 7 minutes each to tell a crowd of hundreds what to watch out for in 2013 and beyond. Leaders representing some of Vancouver's top digital agencies (including Invoke Media, Burnkit, Taxi and Domain7) shared insights and forecasts of the digital world and what that means for businesses.

After an hour of schmoozing over wine and the soft and folksy music of local musician Zaac Pick, the evening was officially (and hilariously) kicked off by moderator Steven Cox, president of Cause+Affect and Producer of Pecha Kucha Vancouver.

Internship Ahoy

If the Seabus were broken, the bridges down and the roads closed, how would you get to a PAID internship at BRANDFX on the North Shore….jetpack? Hippogriff? Tell us and you could be chosen to work on some fun design projects with us this summer. Send your ideas (and we should probably look at your portfolio too) to info@brandfx.ca by May 10th.

What to ask Santa For

We put our heads together and found the must have Christmas gift of the season. All you last minute shoppers, you're welcome! Noble handcrafted bourbon maple syrup is by far the tastiest maple syrup around. It's delicious by itself, on pancakes and pretty much anything else. Here are a few recipe suggestions from the staff at BRANDFX. Enjoy.

Spiked Maple Cranberry Sauce

3 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
1/2 cup Bourbon Maple Syrup
3 tbsp packed dark brown sugar
1 cinnamon stick
1 pinch of ground cloves
1 pinch of ground pepper
1 tablespoon orange zest

On Set With LEONE

It may have been close to 30 degrees outside, but behind the scenes with Leone it was all about boots, fur accents and other fall fashions. This year the colour palette is bold and the clothes spectacular. The atmosphere was any fashion addict’s dream come true.

Avast ye Landlubber!

For the last few years we've participated in the Annual North Shore Credit Union Charity Golf Tournament by sponsoring one of their beverage carts. Last year we challenged physics by creating a giant golf hat to sit on top of the cart (click here to see it, in all its plaid glory). This year we thought we'd take it one step further and try to cover the whole golf cart, and shiver me timbers we did it!

Recipe for Deliciousness

From Sweden to Japan, the people here at BFX come from a mosaic of different backgrounds. Our heritages do have one thing in common though, a history of tasty food. What does this kaleidoscope of culture taste like, you might ask? We decided to do some hard investigating...and had a cultural potluck.
