Grape Expectations

[BFX's own Pamela, Elina and Briony drinking posing for a Steller's Jay Photoshoot]

Our office is no stranger to good wine. After recently working on a couple of fun wine related projects (like the newly designed See Ya Later Ranch website) we almost feel like calling ourselves wine snobs. Almost.

Time for a Wake-Up Call

A couple of years ago - April 30th, 2010 to be exact - on a luxurious week away in Puerto Vallarta with my husband Tim, I had an awakening moment in my life that still brings tears to my eyes to this day. We left Mexico having sponsored two little girls named Valleria and Jennifer. These girls and their families lived at the city dump and struggled daily for the simple things we all take for granted such as food and shelter. Yet, every child I met at the dump that day was full of laughter and hugs. A day I will never, ever forget.

Women for Hire

We would like to take you back to a time when “husky” married girls made model employees. A time when it was presumed that women required several rest breaks to tidy their hair and apply fresh lipstick. We recently came across a guide for hiring women published in 1943, during World War II. As an office predominantly staffed by ladies we can’t help but laugh a little at some of these vintage tips. Here are some of our favourite excerpts from this article:

 1. Pick young married women. They usually have more of a sense of responsibility than their unmarried sisters, they’re less likely to be flirtatious, they need work or they wouldn’t be doing it.

Because it's the holidays....

We've polled our taste buds and they have spoken. In the spirit of the holidays and expanding waistbands everywhere we've put together some of our favorite bacon-filled culinary exploits. So loosen your belts 'cause you're in for tasty read.

Holiday Song & Dance

Groan, we know. But turn that frown upside down because nobody likes a Grinch. The holiday season is here whether you like it or not so we thought we’d share 10 songs to help get you in the spirit or at least to make you a little less Grinchy – is that even a word? Here’s a taste of what the BRANDFX staff is listening to this holiday season:

Dust off your martini shaker, it's about to get classy up in here...

All I want for Christmas....

Alright. Let's get into our time machines and flashback to our childhoods. Do you remember writing out your wish list for Santa Claus? Barbie and Skipper, Hot Wheel sets, Poly Pocket...

Danish Down-low

I was told before I left for my visit to Copenhagen that I would love it, "it's just so efficient" a friend gushed. For a normal person "efficient" isn't the optimal word you would want to describe your vacation, but for me it sounded like utopia. These Danes are not only more efficient than us, they are so much cooler. Even the nerds are 6ft tall, blond, strikingly beautiful, and much too cool to: give directions, greet me in a shop/restaurant, or basically acknowledge my existence at all. Trust me, it's true. Anyway, here are just a few more reasons why Copenhagen is cooler than all of us:

What do you get when you drop a pumpkin? Squash.

How did the ghost patch his sheet?
With a pumpkin patch.

Now that we have a few mandatory pumpkin jokes out of the way, we can get to showing off our Halloween Spirit. As a creative agency, we're always hankering for a fun seasonal project that allows us to drink wine and carve shapes into things (And you won't believe how often these occasions arise) . Since All Hallows' Eve is just around the corner, it seemed like an obvious decision to brighten up the office with some pumpkin cheer.
